Dreaming of a Cycle Tour

we have dreams

of climbing on our bikes

and cycling for months

exploring other countries

one pedal stroke at a time

sleeping in our tent

eating simple food

streamlining our bodies

expanding our minds

together

we have lists

of all the places we want to cycle

Norway’s fjords and Tuscany’s landscape

Croatia’s islands and Slovenia’s caves

Hungary’s hot springs and Slovakia’s mountains

Germany’s rivers and Scotland’s wildness

Wales’s green and Ireland’s magic

the list goes on…

the goal is not the destination

the journey is the dream

we aim to cycle quiet roads

villages not towns

cities only in early mornings

or balmy nights when calm

it’s not hordes of humanity we crave to see

but rural life

ruins whispering stories

views of open landscapes, waterfalls, lakes

depths of green forest tracks, flora and fauna

absorbing the world as we pass

while we wait

we enjoy the little trips

exploring mountain passes for a day

pottering to a local lake

racing sunset clouds back home

observing seasons in our region

capturing wildlife on our phone

sketching landscapes

meandering, slow

until the dreams awake
