The Voie Verte begins in the town of Ornans on the banks of the river Loue, the first 4 kilometers are tarmac and then 9km on gravel resembling a forest track.
Along the route there are several bridges and tunnels including the tunnel de Plaisir-Fontaine 180m which is illuminated.
The voie vert is well sign-posted and includes several panels on the local painter Gustave Courbet.
Once out of the forest the land opens out to the plateau du Doubs famous for its production of Comté cheese. On the route there is a possibility to take short detours to visit Ferme-musée du Foucherans and Fromagerie-musée du Tréport.
Ravine du Puits Noir and the Belvédère du Tourbillon
This was one of Gustave Courbet's favorite places to visit. You can climb the Roche du Tourbillon for a superb view of the valley of Bremen, which is picturesque with steep sides.
At the end is the Priory of Bonnevaux of which only the charming chapel and its bell-tower of the XIIth century remains .
Courbet’s objective of reforming painting led him to launch a new artistic movement: Realism.
We have not ridden this route yet, but plan to do when the weather warms ups
