The old railway line La Voie Tacot is 22 km long and winds through forests and fields full of vines, corn and blackcurrants, connecting Allerey sur Saône (which the Euro Velo 6 passes along) to Beaune in the heart of French Wine Country.
We left the River and EV6 at Gergy at the Junction next to the Campsite Camping de la Soane. After a short ascent through the village we joined the Voie Tacot.
The cycle way has recently been completed with newly laid tarmac and signage.
On the route you pass through several sleepy villages including Verdun sur le Doubs, Levernois and Ste Marie La Blanche with their Chateaus and grand town halls. We did not on this occasion venture into the centre of Beaune with its grand buildings including the
L'Hôtel-Dieu with its decorated tiled roof, but plan to visit again soon to share our adventures in the region of Grands Vins de Bourgogne.
The Burgundy Wine Museum, dedicated to wine and wine-growing from antiquity to present times.
