The Euro Velo 6 in the Jura, is part of a much longer route which starts on the Atlantic coast and travels over 4450 km to the Black Sea.
The route enters the Jura at Abergement-la-Ronce near Dole and follows the River Doubs and the Canal Rhone - Rhine for 43 km on paved routes - mostly cycle track with a few sections shared on minor roads.
Dole is well worth a day off the bike. It is an interesting old town with beautiful buildings, including the Maison natale de Pasteur and Collégiale Notre-Dame de Dole. There is an Aqua Park if you fancy a fun swim, and there are many cafe's and restaurants where you can sample local delights such as Comte Cheese and Jura wines.
Leaving Dole along the Plane Tree lined canal is impressive, but be careful the roots don't take you out. You will soon arrive at Rochefort-sur-Nenon entering the village through the Enceinte du bourg médiéval.
At Orchamps there is a municipal campsite with refurbished facilities and you will always get a smile and a warm welcome from the manager. You are now in the countryside and the Euro Velo leaves the Jura at Saint-Vit.
