Tour Planning

Our aim is not to plan to much in advance. We have booked our ferry and hotels for the journey to the car park at Aalborg airport and our first nights hotel in Norway. We done this reduce costs and ensure a smooth ride to the start point.

If you are planning a trip is is worth looking at reviews on trip adviser and other travel websites.

I always try to find a site that is written by locals of the country we are visiting, this type of site will help give a wealth of information perhaps missed by review sites.

For cycle touring in Norway. I recommend cyclenorway run by Matthew.

It is a treasure trove of local information, with a new community and need to know sections. There are many routes with GPX files which have been cycled by Mathew and shared on his youtube channel.

The site is free to register which gives you limited access. There are two paid for options available, a year or a 3 month planning subscription which I paid for, giving you access to the whole site.

This is a one stop site with all the information you need for a Norway cycling adventure. Visit cyclenorway.com

When doing research, I found the following websites useful.

  • Cycle.travel I use to plan the route after which I upload the GPX file to Komoot for navigation on my phone.

  • Statens Vegvesen is the Norwegian Government site with road and tunnel information and ferry timetables.

  • park4night mainly used by wheeled vehicles but many of the recommendation can also be great spot for a tent.

Please visit again as I will be adding more useful websites as I find them. If you have any tips please share.
